About Us

At MathCup Academy Inc., we are a group of math enthusiasts and parents. As math enthusiasts, we love problem solving. Even though professionally we are working in different industries, we enjoy solving excellent and challenging high school and college level mathematics competition problems. As parents, we are concerned by the level of mathematics learning in most of the elementary and middle schools. A lot of students feel un-challenged in schools' curriculum, and consequently, they find mathematics boring. This is certainly disconnected from the demand of the real world, where problem solving skills are becoming increasingly critical.

We want to make math problem solving fun and cool, and give students the opportunity for excellence.

Founders

Hui Jin Dr. Jin was a two times Chinese math olympiad (CMO) qualifier, and a one time CMO winner. He was a member of the 1993 Chinese math olympiad program (USA MOP counterpart in China). He ranked top 20 nationwide in the Putnam college math competition and was top 5 nationwide Caltech-team member. He holds a B.S., M.S., and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Caltech.

Di Xu Dr. Xu serves as the Head of AI Labs and AI Governance at American Express, where he brings over two decades of expertise in leveraging data science to enhance decision-making processes within the consumer financial sector. His professional interests extend beyond finance, encompassing the application of data science and machine learning across various fields including education, mathematical problem solving, and music creation. Di holds a Doctorate in Industrial Engineering, a Master’s degree in Statistics, and a Bachelor’s degree in Control Theory.
