Description: The Introduction to Algebra class will introduce students to fundamental concepts of algebra, including systems of linear equations, graphing of linear equations, quadratic equations, quadratic factoring, quadratic formula, graphing of quadratics, exponents and radicals. The class focuses on problem-solving and mathematical reasoning skills. In class, we will practice problems from premier middle competitions from MathCounts, AMC 8 and AMC 10.

Description: The lectures will cover most topics required in MathCounts, AMC 8, and AMC 10, including number theory, counting and probability, algebra, and geometry. Dr. Jin is the founder of MathCup; he is an adjunct professor in the Electrical Engineering Department at Columbia University. Dr. Jin was a two times Chinese math olympiad (CMO) qualifier, and a one time CMO winner. He was a member of the 1993 Chinese math olympiad program (USA MOP counterpart in China). When in Caltech, he ranked in the top 20 nationwide in the Putnam college math competition and was a top 5 nationwide team member. He holds a B.S., M.S., and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Caltech.
Dr. Mao is a professor in Rutgers University. He is a number theorist. He received multiple National Science Foundation research grants, and served multiple times on the panels of National Science Foundation. Dr. Mao is passionate in nurturing young mathematical talents. His son, Jason Mao, has qualified for USAMO three times; Jason also ranked first in the HMMT (Feb) in 2023. Dr. Mao holds a Ph.D. in Mathmatics from Columbia University.
Dr. Li is an associate professor at Tulane University. He is a biostatistician and bioinformatician. His research includes both development of analytical methodology and analyses of high-throughput data.
